Did you know that Madiran helps you stay
healthy for longer?
'Here is a short historical overview from the “French Paradox” through to the latest scientific discoveries, a blend of terroir, wine-growing tradition, nutrition and medicine. The opportunity for a stroll through Madiran (and Saint-Mont), an area where life is good, due in no small measure to the local wine. In the 19th century, Pasteur informed the world that “wine is the best drink for your health and the most hygienic". In 1991, Dr Serge Renaud published a report proving the inhibitive properties of wine with regard to the formation of blood clots whereas epidemiological studies have acknowledged the low rate of heart disease victims in France in spite of the western style diet, rich and fat. Thus, the French Paradox was born.
In November 2006, the British Professor Roger Corder published an article entitled "Oenology: Red wine procyanidins and vascular health" in the prestigious scientific review "Nature", followed by the publication of a book called "Wine Diet" providing a review of the art of knowledge about wine, diet and health in order to enjoy better health longer. (Alexandra Foissac: www.lisart.fr August 2007)
Two regions in the world top the list of Roger Corder’s research: the province of Nuoro, in Sardinia and the département of Gers. The men in these areas live for a particularly long time (over 75).
hand, through their grape variety, Tannat, little used in other wine growing areas. Find out more by visiting www.vins-sante.com and you’ll learn all about the benefits of our wines from South-West France!
In short, everybody is envious about our Madiran (and Saint Mont, another prestigious appellation from the South-West) wines, and would have liked to have invented them, and even non-drinkers are seriously tempted! “Whatever you do…make sure you don’t miss out on this much-coveted elixir (…) and head straight to your local stockist (…)” says Véronique Raisin, journalist in charge of the "Discoveries" section in the Revue des Vins de France (French Wine Magazine) (February 2008).
